Painting contractor SEO services help homeowners and property managers find your company when they're comparing painters, pricing a job or picking colors for the outside of the house. I'm Mohib Rais Khan, an independent SEO consultant near Chicago, and this page covers what I'd change on a painter's site and profile.
SEO for a painter means separate, well-proven pages for interior, exterior and commercial work, a Business Profile full of real job photos, and content that answers the cost and color questions homeowners ask before they call.
Painting looks simple from the outside, which is exactly why buyers compare hard. Many assume any painter will do, so the job is to show why yours is different: prep work, the products you use, how you protect furniture and floors, and what the finished walls look like up close. A painter who shows that on the site stops competing on price alone.
The quoted phrasings are real Google suggestions I collected in September 2026. They show wording, not demand.
Autocomplete splits "house painters near me interior" from "house painters near me exterior" by itself. The interior customer is thinking about moving furniture, drying time, odor and whether the crew will be careful in a lived-in home. The exterior customer worries about peeling, weather, ladders near landscaping and whether the paint will last. One page trying to answer both gets vague, so I'd give each its own page with its own photos and questions.
People ask "interior painting cost per square foot" and "exterior house painting cost" long before they ask for a quote. I won't put invented price figures on a painter's site. A cost page that explains the real drivers (wall condition, ceiling height, trim detail, number of colors, siding type and how much scraping is needed) is more honest and often more useful than a number. You'll also see "house painters near me cheap"; I'd meet that with a clear explanation of what cuts cost without cutting prep, rather than a low headline figure.
"exterior house painting ideas" is a planning search, and it's a chance a lot of painters miss. A short gallery article of homes you have painted, grouped by style, with the color names you used (where the client agreed), brings in homeowners at the idea stage. If you offer color consultation, that deserves its own page, because it's a real service that separates a painting contractor from a handyman with a roller.
Here is how my painting contractor SEO services map the main searches for a painter who does residential and some commercial work. Remove the rows for work you don't take.
| Search phrasing | Page it needs | What proves you're the right painter |
|---|---|---|
| "house painters near me interior" | Interior painting page | Room photos, furniture protection, cleanup routine, low-odor product options |
| "exterior house painting contractors near me" | Exterior painting page | Prep and scraping photos, siding types handled, weather scheduling |
| "exterior house painting cost" | Painting cost guide | Factors that change the quote, explained without invented numbers |
| "exterior house painting ideas" | Color ideas gallery | Homes you painted, grouped by style, linking to the exterior page |
| commercial painting searches | Commercial painting page | Offices, retail or multi-unit work, after-hours scheduling |
| "painting contractor jobs" | Careers page | Crew openings, kept separate from customer pages |
The careers row matters because job-seeker searches like "painting contractor jobs" and rate questions show up alongside customer searches. Sending those visitors to a proper careers page helps you hire and keeps your sales pages focused on buyers.
The closest category Google offers is usually Painter, and I'd check the top three map results in your area before deciding, since some painters also add a commercial or drywall-related category when it's real work. Most painters travel to the job, so set up the service area following Google's guidance and hide the home address if nobody visits it.
Photos are where a painter wins this profile. Post close-ups of cut lines and trim, not only wide shots of a house from the street, and add photos through the season rather than all at once. Ask every customer for a review at the walkthrough, and suggest they mention interior or exterior and their town. Filtering who gets asked or paying for reviews goes against Google's rules, and I don't recommend either.
The most common one is a single Services page that says "interior, exterior, commercial, cabinets, decks" in a line and nothing more. It gives Google nothing to rank for and gives the homeowner no reason to call you over the next painter. Next is the stock-photo problem: a site full of smiling models holding rollers looks like every other painting site. Your own before-and-after photos, even simple ones, do much more.
I also find quote forms that ask for too much, pages that never mention the towns served, and no structured data at all. schema.org has a HousePainter type, which is the one I'd use for a residential painting company. For product claims, keep to what's true: if you say a paint is low-VOC or carries a manufacturer warranty, make sure it does, and link to the maker's information where you can.
In colder regions like Chicago, exterior painting depends on the weather, while interior work can run all year. That rhythm shapes painting contractor SEO services more than most owners expect. Exterior pages and color idea articles should be updated and indexed before spring, and interior content can do more of the work through late fall and winter. Local SEO for painters also means adjusting Business Profile posts and photos to the season you're selling.
Commercial buyers such as property managers, office managers and HOA boards tend to hire again and again once they trust a painter. They want to see insurance details, crew size, scheduling around tenants and references from similar buildings. SEO for painters who want commercial work means a separate page written for that buyer, not a sentence added to the homeowner pages.
I begin with a free audit report of your website: technical issues, structured data, and how clearly your pages describe interior, exterior and commercial work. Then I fix the Business Profile and service area, build or rewrite the service pages, and create a cost guide and a color ideas gallery from your own jobs. After that I set up a simple review request at the walkthrough and tracking for calls and quote forms, so you know which searches bring paying work.
My painting contractor SEO services sit inside my small business SEO work, which runs $500 to $2,000 a month. The small business SEO overview explains how I work, and the local SEO service goes deeper on the map results. If you often work alongside remodelers, the remodeling SEO page shows how that side of the market searches.
Send your website address in the form below. I'll run the audit myself and email you the report with the first three fixes I'd make.
