When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews for a recommendation, the answer names a handful of brands and ignores the rest. My GEO services make sure your business is one of the names those AI answers trust, cite and recommend, using the same white-hat discipline I bring to every SEO campaign.
Search is splitting in two. People still type into Google, but more and more of them ask an AI assistant and act on the answer without clicking anything. GEO services, short for generative engine optimization services, are how you stay visible in that second channel. I work directly on your account, from the first audit to the monthly report, so you always know who is doing the work and why.
Generative engines do not rank ten blue links. They read many sources, build one answer and cite the few sources they trust most. GEO is the work of becoming one of those sources.
In practice my GEO services cover four jobs. First, make sure AI crawlers can reach and read your site at all. Second, make your business a clear, consistent entity, with the same name, services, location and credentials everywhere it appears. Third, rewrite key pages so they contain short, factual, quotable answers an AI system can lift with confidence. Fourth, earn mentions and citations on the third-party sites the models already lean on.
None of this replaces SEO. It sits on top of it. The pages that get cited in AI answers are almost always pages that are already technically sound and ranking reasonably well in Google, which is why GEO works best as part of a complete SEO service.
Buyers are asking AI for shortlists, and the shortlist is short. If you are not in the answer, you are not in the running.
Generative engine optimization matters because it:
The businesses that invest early set the facts the models repeat. Catching up later is harder, because AI answers tend to reuse the sources they already trust.
The three terms overlap, and agencies often blur them. Here is the plain version I use with clients.
SEO makes your pages rank in Google’s organic results. AEO, or answer engine optimization, shapes your content so it becomes the direct answer in featured snippets, People Also Ask, voice assistants and AI Overviews. GEO goes one step further: it makes your brand the source that large language models cite and recommend when they write an answer from many sources.
You need all three, and they reinforce each other. I cover the answer-format side in detail on my AEO services page, and my guide to SEO vs AEO vs GEO walks through the differences with examples.
Every AI platform works a little differently, but the same signals keep showing up in what they choose to quote.
If one of these is missing, the model quietly picks a competitor. A lot of GEO work is simply finding which signal is weak and fixing it. For Google specifically, Google’s own guidance on AI features confirms that the same fundamentals behind helpful, crawlable content apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Every engagement is scoped to your market, but these are the building blocks I use.
You can see a quick version of the audit for free with my AI visibility checker before we ever speak.
I test your priority prompts across the major AI platforms, check crawler access, and map where competitors are cited and you are not.
I fix crawler blocks, add llms.txt and schema, and make your brand facts consistent everywhere the models look.
I rewrite key pages into quotable answers and earn mentions on the third-party sites AI engines already trust.
Every month I re-run the prompt set, report your share of voice and citations, and double down on what moved.
Most GEO agencies talk only about national brands. Local businesses have just as much to win.
When someone asks an assistant for “the best dentist in Oak Park” or “a reliable HVAC company near me”, the answer draws heavily on Google Business Profile data, reviews, local directories and local news. That is familiar ground for me: I have spent years on local SEO for Chicago-area businesses, and local GEO is the natural next layer.
For local clients I focus on consistent name, address and phone data, review velocity, service-area clarity and mentions in local sources, then test city-level prompts to see which competitors the AI recommends and why.
AI visibility can be measured. It just needs different metrics than rankings alone.
I track AI visibility with Semrush’s AI Visibility toolkit and manual prompt testing, and every report is written in plain English with the next month’s priorities.
GEO is new, and plenty of vendors are overselling it. Here is where I draw the line.
I will not promise that ChatGPT or any other assistant will name you for a specific prompt. Nobody controls those answers, and anyone who guarantees them is guessing. AI answers also vary between sessions and users, so a single screenshot proves very little.
What I do promise is transparent work, honest measurement across a stable prompt set, and methods that follow Google’s guidelines and never try to manipulate a model. The same things that make you citable, clear facts and genuine authority, also make your business easier to choose.
GEO pays off fastest for businesses where buyers research before they call.
If people ask AI about the problem you solve, you are a fit for GEO services.
These pair naturally with GEO Services as part of a complete search strategy.
